War and Peace Show in televised procession
On the
13th November, the War and Peace Show, held at the Hop Farm Country
Park each July, will be represented in one of the Country's most
historic events - The Lord Mayors Show.
As new
Lord Mayor of London, Michael Savoury, begins the 800 year old
traditional procession to The Royal Courts of justice to pledge
allegiance to the Crown, he will be joined by 8000 people and 352
vehicles in a parade 3.3 miles long.
The War and Peace show, represented by a Sherman tank on a low
loader, 18 jeeps carrying Chelsea pensioners and 6 motorcycle
outriders. The military display will be 17th in a total of 151 parading
organisations, which include Barclays bank, post office ltd and the
Kent & Sharpshooters Yeomanry squadron. This is not the first year
in which the War and Peace show has taken part in the event, but it is
the most vehicles they have ever taken there.
The Lord Mayors Show was apparently the first event ever to be
broadcast live on television and still annually receives audience
figures of around 3 million, on top of the half a million people who go
along to watch.
Dates have now been announced for the War and Peace Show 2005 and it
will take place, at the Hop Farm Country Park on 20th - 24th July 2005.
2005's show will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of the 2nd
world war and organisers are currently hard at work confirming a line
up to match this year's star appearances from the Dad's Army and It
Ain't Half hot mum cast members and Dame Vera Lynn.
