Re-enactors at War and Peace

reenactors_at_wp_waiting_for_the_luftwaffe_in_1940_r.jpgRE-ENACTORS will play a vital role in bringing to life the dangers which faced Britain during the dark days of 1940, at the War and Peace Show this year.

On the Tuesday before the Show - 20 July - thousands of school children will walk through a dramatic live exhibition depicting the evacuation of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and the wholesale migration of children to places of safety during the blitz.

Living history groups will gear re-enactments to the children's school curriculum. There will be displays of military vehicles. The Medway Queen Preservation Society will demonstrate how a pleasure paddle steamer rescued 7,000 men from the beaches. And former evacuees and war veterans will be on hand to answer questions.

Show organiser Rex Cadman said: "Kent played a vital role in ensuring the survival of Britain at a time when we could easily have been invaded and our way of life destroyed. We want to ensure future generations are kept fully aware of this."
