Who's Who

Section: General
What is your role and title at War & Peace?: I arrive 2 weeks before the show and help in cleaning caravans, booking in and merchandising prior to opening. I then work with Pauline Spiers setting up the catering tent and producing meals for the work force. After the show I help clean everything down and pack away.
Are you happy in your role or is there something else you would prefer to do?: Yes, very happy in what I do. I enjoy the cooking although the washing up is a bit of a drag.
How many years have you been involved in War & Peace and why did you become involved?: About 4 years.
What do your friends and family think of your involvement, do they support you and in what way?: My close relatives are all involved. My husband Ken runs the Jeep raffle with his friend Nobby and my son-in-law Steve runs the War and Peace Collection workshops and maintains all their vehicles.
Do you travel far to War & Peace, how do you get there and in what?: I do not own a military vehicle although my husband has a Jeep. I use my 4x4 to travel the 64 miles to the Show.
Why do you keep coming back for more?: I enjoy the atmosphere and meeting lots of people who are friendly.
What do you enjoy most about War & Peace and what could you add to it?: I enjoy all of War and Peace and happy the way things are.
What do you enjoy least about War and Peace and what could you do to improve it?: I enjoy it all.
If there were anything you could change about War & Peace what would it be and how would you assist in making these changes?: I would like a better lay out of the kitchen, it is always difficult to set up a kitchen catering for 150 people in a field.
What is your job in the real world, have you always done this and do you have any military background?: I am a senior night carer in a residential home looking after adults with learning difficulties. I have no military background.
What is your favourite story about your involvement or a friends involvement in War & Peace?: As a regular attendant at Rory's bar there are lots of late night stories I could tell you about War and Peace but I think they are best left at the Show and not for public airing. All I can say is we do have a fun time.
How do you see the show developing in the future? Will you still be involved and what can you do to promote the future of War & Peace?: I would like to think the show will go on for many years to come and that I can maintain an involvement in it. I enjoy what I do there and would like to continue doing that. As for promoting the show in the future I sing its praises to all the people I know.
What military vehicle clubs do you belong to and when did you join?: None although I think my husband is a member of IMPS.
Do you assist in any other military shows and in what role?: No thank you, War and Peace is enough for anyone.
Would you support a war and peace show club?: Yes although I don't know how.
Do you own a military vehicle, did you restore this yourself, and are you involved in re-enactment? Have you ever been a trader?: No as I said before my husband owns a Jeep which he had restored by the War and Peace workshops. He and his friend Nobby take this to shows all over the country.
Do you have photographs of your vehicle(s)?: No
Do you have photographs of your re-enactments?: No
What is the attraction for you about the whole military scene?: I enjoy the friendship and camaraderie. War and Peace is a special place that has an amazing atmosphere
When and where did you first become involved in the military hobby?: I first came across military vehciles about 10 years ago and became more interested as my husband's interests grew
If you had a never ending budget which would be the 5 vehicles you would buy?: A Sherman tank to park on top of my husband's Jeep and a second Sherman to park on top of my husband!!
Which is your favourite bar at War & Peace and why? And where do you most like to eat?: Ginger Gammons for music and entertainment and I am most likely to eat in my own kitchen along with the rest of the crew.
Other than War & Peace what is your idea of a perfect weekend?: Relaxing with a case of wine with the Bee Gees playing in the background
